- Andrew Goodwin used illustration, amplification and disjuncture to describe how music videos can connect back to the song.
Illustration
- This is very commonly used and is where images are used to illustrate the lyrics of a song. It is the easiest way to create a base for a music video because you can take the lyrics literally which makes the imagery easy to create and then follow.
- Amplification
- This allows the director to be a creative act throughout the music video as a whole; constructing a deeper layer and meaning to the lyrics. Amplification is essentially the enhancement of the video concept.
- Disjuncture
- This is where the video completely ignores the lyrics and juxtaposes itself so present something completely different, separate to the lyrics. A good example of this is The Red Hot Chilli Peppers'
